Nori Japanese Restaurant is one of the largest and most popular Japanese dining establishments in Nanaimo, BC. As our business continues to expand, we are excited to invite a passionate Cook to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing a wide range of dishes. This position requires precision, a keen eye for detail, and a dedication to maintaining our high standards of quality and authenticity in both traditional Japanese dishes and sushi.

 

Job Title: Cook

Location: #203-6750 Island Hwy., Nanaimo, BC V9V 1S3

Number of Vacancies: 1

Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Wage: $21.00 per hour

Vacation: 4% of gross salary

 

Responsibilities:
-          Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes, including Japanese traditional meal and sushi, according to our restaurant’s standards.

-          Plan menu, determine size of food portions and estimate food cost and requirements

-          Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies, and equipment.

-          Keep a clean and orderly cooking station while adhering to health and safety standards

-          Train other kitchen staff on the preparation, cooking, and handling of food

-          Oversee kitchen operations in the absence of the Head Chef.

Job Requirements:

-          Minimum 2 years of commercial cooking experience OR Completion of a 3-year apprenticeship program for cooks OR Completion of college or other program in cooking

-          Strong understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.

-          Knowledge of practices in sushi preparation and Japanese culinary arts.

-          Completion of Secondary School.
